Have you ever wonder how many Merlions in Singapore?

You may have seen the official mascot of Singapore, the mythical Merlion with the head of a lion and the body of a fish. Do you know what the icon represents and how many Merlions in Singapore?

The lion head represents the original name of Singapore, “Singapura” or lion city in Malay. The fish body symbolises Singapore was origin as a fishing village when it was called “Temasek” (in Javanese) which means sea town

Today, the Merlion has been visited by millions of visitors each year and it is a ‘must-see’ icon in Singapore. Here is the list of Merlions that we believe that you should not miss during your visit.

 

1. Merlion Park

Merlion at Merlion Park

Located at the Merlion Park, you will find the legend Merlion statue. The Merlion stands tall at 8.6 metres spouting water from its mouth, in front of the Fullerton Hotel and overlooking Marina Bay, is the best and most favourite spot for photo shooting.

2. ‘Merlion Cub’ @ Merlion Park 

Merlion at Merlion Park

The smaller version of the Merlion, known as ‘Merlion cub’ can also be found in the Merlion Park. The statue stands at 2 metres tall located just few metres away from the original Merlion statue at the Merlion Park.

3. Sentosa Merlion (*** PERMANENTLY CLOSED DOWN FROM 21 OCT 2019 ***)

Sentosa Merlion

Sentosa Merlion is the largest and tallest Merlion in Singapore. The Sentosa Merlion stands at 37-metres is the only Merlion that you can walk into and enjoy panoramic view of Sentosa and Singapore’s South Shores from the Merlion’s mouth.

  • Sentosa Express – From HarbourFront Station, take the escalator up to the 3rd level of VivoCity, Lobby L, and follow the signs to Sentosa Station.

  • Travel by taxi.

4. Mount Faber Merlion

Merlion at Mount Faber

Mount Faber Merlion stands at 3 metres tall located at the highest point of the Mount Faber. From here, you can take a view of the Keppel Harbour and the southern tip of the Peninsular Malaysia.
