Buddha Tooth Relic Temple & Museum

Visit one of Singapore’s must-see cultural sites, the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple & Museum located in the Chinatown district. 

This Tang-styled Chinese Buddhist temple cost S$75 million was built in 2007. The temple comprises of five-storey is well known for its comprehensive exhibits of Buddhist cultures, arts and history. The temple’s name is regard to the left canine tooth of Buddha, that was discovered from his funeral pyre in India.

The Buddha Tooth Relic is housed in a giant stupa weighing at 3,500 kilograms and made from 320 kilograms of gold. Visitors can view the tooth relic from the public viewing area. The relic chamber is only accessible by monks.

The Buddhist Culture Museum located on the third and fourth floors consists of impressive arrays of Buddhist relics and artefacts. The museum also has a theatre that hosts cultural performances, talks and film screenings.

Visitors who are interested to discover more about Buddhism, you may the “Discovering Buddhism” workshop organised by the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple. Admission to the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple & Museum is free. Visitors can register for the 2-hour weekly-guided tours conducted by the temple’s volunteers guides. Visitors will be guided through each floors and halls of the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple.
